It's cool, it's hip and it certainly is a hop step and jump away from the old way of finding out the news. Just when you thought you had a handle on using the Internet and all the weird and whacky terminology that it has inspired, here is the Best Flights simple version of an explanation on RSS Syndication; we believe we are the first Australian Travel company to offer travel specials via .rss feeds to news reader programs.
What does RSS do?
Faster than lightning, and there on demand, RSS provides the means of delivering the Best Flights travel news and fare alerts as they are released, straight to your own news reader program (also known as a news aggregator).
It costs you nothing, is spam free, virus free and protects your online privacy. Every time you open your New Reader you can access all the latest available specials in the system.
What do I get with RSS?
Each time we update our news feeds with a newsletter or fare alert you will be notified in your news aggregator with a series of short headlines that contain the summary of the available specials and the option to find out more if it interests you. Simply click on the link and you are directed to the webpage with the full details of the offer.
Why would I use RSS?
RSS brings it all together - under the one roof so to speak. Using your favourite News Reader you can get all the latest gossip, news, blogs and information from around the world on the one program. You're in control - and choose what you want to receive.
The time saver... no need to wade through all the spam emails to reach those travel updates. If you've ever experienced problems due to email viruses, lost mail, or spam filters that have black listed your emails then this is a solution will get you the goods when you want to access it.
We look at this as being yet another tool in our toolkit for the delivery of our great specials to our customers. So if you've already got a news reader, or would like to try it out... give it a go, it's fun and simple to do.
What does RSS Mean?
RSS is short for Rich Site Summary - Really Simple Syndication or RDF Site Summary, an XML format for syndicating Web content. Basically it is a format for marking up content that is read in suitable programs that can then react to the information received.
Popular in the weblogging community a news aggregator can help you keep up with all your favourite weblogs/news feeds by checking their RSS feeds and displaying new items from each of them... weblogs? blogging? What's that??? Weblog is, literally, a "log" of the web - a diary-style site, in which the author (a "blogger") links to other web pages he or she finds interesting using entries posted in reverse chronological order. Some of these sites have become popular for daily review ... a look into the life of a particular publisher and their thoughts.
