Intrepid Travel - AUSTRALIA: 7 Days Central Explorer from $890

Most of us think about heading overseas for our annual holidays but adventures can be had at home too. The 7 day Central Explorer is an opportunity to head into the red centre and explore some of the most remote areas of central Australia. This 4WD adventure allows you to get right off the beaten track through cattle stations to outback icons such as Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Watarrka in a small group, allowing the freedom to explore some remote areas. By night, settle down in your bush camp, cook over a campfire and sleep under the vast, starry sky

Our adventure begins in the isolated town of Alice Springs. This outback settlement is the perfect gateway to the Australian desert. Pre tour accommodation in Alice can be purchased if you want to spend a few days here before the tour begins.

We leave Alice early on the first morning and head to nature's icon of Australia, Uluru. En route there is an opportunity for an optional camel ride! Explore the base of this magnificent monolith and visit the cultural centre to learn about the Tjukurpa (Aboriginal law). Climbing the rock is an option (and you don’t need to be an rock climbing champion) so dust off your hiking boots.

On the second day rise early to catch the sunrise over Uluru before heading to Kata Tjuta for an 8km hike through the Valley of the Winds. In the afternoon we visit the Curtin Springs Cattle Station before setting up our bush camp. Tonight we have a campfire dinner and sleep under the stars, exhausted from our earlier hike! The next morning it is time to hit the bush tracks that make this trip truly unique. We travel north to the Kings Creek Station with an option to hop on a quad bike to explore the property on a sunset tour. The next day we visit Watarrka, formerly known as Kings Canyon, to enjoy an 8km rim walk, followed by a cooling swim in the tranquil Garden of Eden rock pool.

After more 4wd we hike along the old Finke River and discover Redbank Gorge, a spectacular secret of Central Australia, then the day exploring, swimming and relaxing before returning to Alice Springs where our adventure draws to an end. Again you have the option of extra nights in Alice to truly explore this colourful Australian town and meet the locals.
