Hidden
in the magnificent Andes mountain range is the
traditional, beautiful Lares Valley Trek. Its appeal
lies in its rare authenticity and anonymity; it is one
of many alternative Inca treks that has managed to
escape mainstream tourist attention. The four-day trek
offers numerous opportunities to experience Quechua
Andean life, explore fascinating Inca ruins and enjoy a
large variety of native flora and fauna. The trek is a
very similar grade to the Inca Trail, but it reaches a
staggering 4450m pass on Day 2. Make sure you keep
chewing on those coca leaves! The Lares Trek has many
opportunities for authentic cultural interactions with
indigenous Quechua Indians. Also, with the help of your
local guide you'll be able to learn about many ancient
traditions and customs of these Inca descendents, such
as medicinal plants and traditional weaving. Altitude
can affect anyone at moderate to high altitude
(generally anything over 3,000 metres). The Lares Trek
is a combination of ascents and descents, so altitude
sickness is usually short term if experienced at all.
Experience the Lares Valley Trek on Tucan's 15 day
Ollanta tour from Lima to Cuzco (or visa versa) this
journey combines the well known highlights of Peru with
some of the regions best Inca ruins along with a visit
to beautiful Lake Titicaca. Also, travel to the heart of
the steamy Amazon jungle and meet Andean farmers in the
traditional villages around the Lares region.

AIRLINE OF THE YEAR 2006 - RESULTS
British Airways has been announced as the 2006 Airline of the Year in the World
Airline Awards published today. In second place is Qantas, with the 2005 winner,
Cathay Pacific, ranked in 3rd position for 2006.
The 2006 World Airline Awards ® are based on the annual World Airline Survey
conducted by Skytrax - carried out between September 2005 and May 2006. The
survey measures over 35 different aspects of passenger satisfaction for each
airline's product and service standards - evaluating the 'typical' travel
experience.
