Winelands Of Alsace - Its Riesling But with a Different Name

This is a little gem. We have all done our tours of the Barossa, Margaret River or the Hunter Valley but this is a unique opportunity to explore one of the worlds most famous wine regions on foot, no skipper required.

Alsace is a little region nestled between Germany and the Vosges Mountains, world renound for producing Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner and Gewürztraminer rich wine varieties that are perfect accompaniments for the delicious savoury tarts and pastries for which the region is celebrated.

Graded 2 for Easy, you don’t need to train for weeks or be an iron man to complete this tour but a few weeks training the palate wouldn’t go astray. What’s more luggage transfers are included so you don’t need to carry more than a daypack with you. Accommodation is 2 nights in small hotels and 5 nights in village hotels with 7 breakfasts and five dinners included. This tour can be run for a minimum of one person too so find a friend or come alone.

Itinerary

Day 1- Start Obernai
Day 2 Obernai to Andlau a gentle 15 km stroll
Day 3 Dambach to Scherwiller another gentle 15kms
Day 4 to Riobeauville 15kms again (see any pattern)
Day 5 – Relief 11 kms including Riquewihr and Ammerschwihr
Day 6 14 kms of gentle pace encumbasing Turkheim and Eguishman
Day 6 Transfer to Colmar
Day 7 Tour finishes after breakfast

The tour is a gentle amble south from Obernai to Colamr. Along the way you will pass many vineyards and wine producing villages while taking in the lush scenery of the region. The villages you will visit are quaint medieval villages with cobblestone streets and windows dressed with flower boxes. You will also visit the fortified village of Eguisheim, the birthplace of Alsace’s winegrowing industry.

So dust off the boots and crack open the cellar and get training.

Hong Kong has become home to the world's best airport and airline, according to millions of travellers who voted in recent polls conducted by UK-based Skytrax Research.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) took the top gong for Airport of the Year 2005, and Cathay Pacific collected the award for Airline of the Year 2005 at a special presentation ceremony in London last week.

The 2005 World Airline Awards poll was the largest passenger survey ever with more than 12.3 million eligible nominations. Skytrax said votes were cast by 94 different nationalities from June 2004 to May 2005.

The Hong Kong International Airport has previously taken the award for “Airport of the Year” for five consecutive years, while Cathay Pacific Airways has been named “Airline of the Year 2005” for the second time in three years. Cathay Pacific also secured for Best Airline Asia, Best First Class, and Best Airline Lounges.

"These awards bring pride to the entire Hong Kong community. Hong Kong International Airport has amassed an outstanding pool of industry leaders that has made us the best in the international aviation market," AA's Chief Executive Officer Dr David Pang, said.

"To be voted 'Airline of the Year' twice in three years is no small achievement. The Skytrax award is testament to the hard work of every member of Cathay Pacific staff and the continuous support from all of our business partners to deliver superior value and service to our customers,” Cathay Pacific Chief Executive, Philip Chen said.
