Morocco – Deserts and Kasbahs, 15 days from $1245
Spend two weeks in Morocco discovering its fascinating
medinas and souqs (markets, ride on a camel through the
Sahara Desert, walk through the gorgeous Todra Valley
and soak up some Arabic architecture and culture.
You’ll begin your tour in Casablanca where you can visit
the Grand Mosque Hassan II which juts out into the ocean
or wander off the beaten track and explore the Old
Medina. You then catch a train to Fes which is the
oldest of the Imperial Cities, and one of the holiest
cities in the Islamic World. The old part of Fes is a
real labyrinth of 9400 narrow, twisting, turning lanes
where you can go in search of a Moroccan carpet or some
other interesting souvenir but watch out for the
donkeys! Next stop is Meknes, another Imperial City and
is the perfect place to get lost in a traditional souq
where you’ll find activity at every turn from local
saw-millers to tentmakers, metalworkers, coppersmiths
and lots more. You’ll also visit the Roman ruins of
Volubilis.
Now you spend the day driving through the Atlas
Mountains where you will see some local Berber people
working in the fields and have a look at the remarkable
rock formations of Ziz Gorge on your way to the Sahara
Desert. Once at the Sahara you will have the opportunity
to ride a camel into the dunes and camp overnight. This
is a definite must do! You’ll then leave the desert and
walk through Todra Gorge which is a stark contrast with
its lush vegetation and abundant wildlife, especially
birds. You’ll also drive through the Valley of 1000
Kasbahs which features features unique architecture and
is a stunning sight against the stark desert landscape.
Watch out for movie stars when you visit Ouarzazate, and
Ait Ben Haddou where The Gladiator and Lawrence of
Arabia were filmed.
Then you cross the High Atlas Mountains again via the
spectacular Tizi ‘n Tichka pass to Marrakesh. Here you
can shop for souvenirs in the souqs then at night
experience the madness of the night markets where you
will find lots of food stalls, snake charmers, acrobats,
witch doctors plus so much more. Then make your to the
coastal city of Essaouira where you can chill out on the
beach and sample some local seafood.

British Airways wins Business
Traveller readers votes around the world
Readers of Business Traveller Asia Pacific voted British
Airways Best European Airline for the fourth year in a
row at an awards ceremony in Hong Kong on Friday
September 9 2005.
This was followed yesterday (Monday September 9) by the
airline winning a further six awards at the UK Business
Traveller awards held at the London Hilton hotel.
British Airways’ chief executive designate, Willie
Walsh, collected six awards for:
Best airline
Best short-haul airline
Best frequent flyer programme
Best first class
Best business class
Best economy class
British Airways’ commercial director, Martin George,
said: “We are delighted that the readers of Business
Traveller magazine have voted overwhelmingly for British
Airways.
“Despite the recent challenges, the next year will be an
exciting one for British Airways as we look to make some
significant investments in our products and services. We
are committed to ensuring that British Airways maintains
its place at the forefront of our industry.”
In addition to British Airways’ awards, its one-world
alliance won best airline alliance for the second year

Asia-Pacific Business
Travellers vote Emirates
Emirates added another accolade to its impressive trophy
collection recently, winning the Best Middle
East/African Airline award from Business Traveller
Asia-Pacific for the second time running.
The Business Traveller Asia-Pacific 2005 Annual Travel
Awards event was held last week in Hong Kong, attended
by top executives from international airlines and Tung
Chee Hwa, former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and patron of Save
the Children Hong Kong.
Richard Vaughan, Emirates' Senior Vice President
Commercial Operations - East Asia & Australasia said:
"We are delighted to win this award, a vote of
confidence from business travellers and our customers in
the Asia-Pacific region, for our continuous drive to
deliver high-quality service across all our customer
touch points.
"We are particularly proud of our in-flight services
delivered by cabin crew drawn from over 100
nationalities, cuisine designed by international chefs
and unbeatable information and entertainment facilities.
Going forward, we intend to increase and strengthen our
route network in the Far East , offering our passengers
even more convenient travel options. Expect more from
Emirates."
The airline serves 10 destinations in the Far East and
six destinations in Australia and New Zealand . The East
Asia and Australasia region was responsible for 27.8
percent of the airline's revenue in the financial year
2004-05, underlining its significance to Emirates'
business.
This year some of the major awards received by the
airline include: World's Best Airline Inflight
Entertainment 2005 from Skytrax; Best Marketing Campaign
(for launch of New York) from Official Airline Guide (OAG);
Best Member Communications, Best Web Site in the Asia
Pacific region, and Programme of the Year at the 17 th
Annual Freddie Awards ; Air Cargo Carrier of the Year
from International Freighting Weekly; and Best Cargo
Carrier Middle East (3 rd year running) from Asia
Freight and Supply Chain Awards .
The 2005 Business Traveller Asia-Pacific survey was
conducted from May to July this year, with readers
voting for the best travel industry service providers in
over 40 different categories. Business Traveller
