Adventure Tour of the Week
Kumuka – East Africa in Depth – 35 days
If you want a tour that will blow your mind and change
your life forever then this is for you. You’ll visit
world renowned game parks, hopefully see the Big Five,
trek for mountain gorillas in Uganda, go crazy white
water rafting in Jinja (the adventure capital of East
Africa), chill out on Zanzibar Island enjoying the
seafood and stunning sunsets, plus enjoy the gorgeous
smiles and spirit of the Africa people.
The first couple of days will be spent travelling from
Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park, your first game
park. Lake Nakuru is a smaller park but has a sizeable
population of black and white rhinos and pink flamingos
- keep your eyes peeled for leopards lazing in the
trees. Depart Kenya for Uganda where you’ll reach Laky
Bunyoni, which is your base for the gorilla visits. If
there was ever a once in a lifetime experience then this
is it. You will trek for up to 6 hours through the
jungle in a small groups group tracking the endangered
mountain gorillas. Day ten and eleven will be spent
travelling back via Kampala to Bujagali Falls near Jinja
(the source of the Nile) where you can go white water
rafting on the Nile River.
After all that excitement you then head back to Kenya
and visit Kakamega Forrest Reserve which is renowned for
its bird life, primates and beautiful scenery, en-route
to Lake Naivasha. At Lake Naivasha you may wish to visit
Elsamere, the home of Joy Adamson who inspired the movie
“Born Free”, or cycle through Hells Gate National Park
(one of the few parks where you don’t have to drive) or
you can visit Crescent Island where you are almost
certain to come within metres of giraffe, wildebeest and
gazelle. On days we eighteen to twenty you will drive to
the world famous Masai Mara and have an opportunity to
visit a traditional Masai village. Once inside the
Reserve then the fun begins to see who can spot the most
wildlife. You should be able to see prides of lions,
elephants, buffaloes, Zebra, hippos plus the more common
animals such as warthog, giraffe and baboon. You will
also have the opportunity to enjoy a champagne breakfast
on the plains of the Mara and then float above the gam
reserve in a hot air balloon. On day twenty-one you head
back to Nairobi where you can visit Karen Blixons House,
the giraffe centre. Then you will head to the Ngorongoro
Crater and Serengeti National Park in Tanzania where you
will get another great opportunity to see the Big Five
and go hot air ballooning over the Serengeti plains.
After visiting the parks of Tanzania you will drive to
Dar es Salaam, past the awesome Mt Kilimanjaro, the
highest mountain in Africa.
On day twenty-nine you will hop on a ferry to the “Spice
Island” of Zanzibar. You will spend two nights in Stone
Town where you can visit Prison Island and see the giant
tortoises, swim with dolphins on the southern beaches or
take a Spice Tour of the island. In the evening you can
enjoy a “sundowner” watching the sunset over the Indian
Ocean before exploring the night markets and tasting the
myriad of fresh seafood on offer. The next two days will
be spent chilling out at the northern beaches where
there is amazing diving, snorkelling or take a boat ride
in a traditional Arabic sailing dhow. Its coconut palms,
white sands and clear blue sea are the perfect tropical
setting for the ending of the tour.
